A Lesson and Whole 30 Advice

So Bob and I were going about our business eating all paleo. I can at least speak for myself and say I was feeling pretty proud of us. It was Sunday and Week 1 was almost coming to an end and I thought that we had been PERFECT. I get home from work and Bob informs me that when he went to Sprouts that afternoon he checked the ingredients of the mixed nuts we got on the first day of the challenge.  They put canola oil in the bulk mixed nuts! Let me tell you, it is extremely disappointing when you have been working really hard to eat right and you mess up unknowingly! We didn’t think to check the label, because we get these nuts all the time, believing that they are paleo-legit. It IS a bummer, but on the other hand, it could be worse. I think it would be much more of a cheat if it were dairy, gluten, added sugar or artificial sugar, which are all HUGE NO-NOs during the program.

So a little advice to those of you who are doing the Whole 30 program: Check and re-check labels. Even with food you eat all the time and believe to be paleo. It’s better to be safe than sorry. Accidentally cheating is the most unsatisfying way you could cheat.
