Makyia graduated from The University of Washington (Seattle) in 2004 with a degree in Creative Writing and a minor in Women Studies. During her time at The University of Washington she had the opportunity to live and study abroad in Rome through the Honors in Rome Program. She also had the opportunity to facilitate and teach a Comparative History of Ideas class to fellow undergraduates called "Defining and Defying Gender Roles in Contemporary Cinema". Currently she spends her time as an avid CrossFitter in San Diego. She is CrossFit Level 1 certified and also has a International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA) Personal Training Certification. Besides CrossFit her passions are paleo nutrition, eating good food, finding the best burger in town, craft beer and home-brewing.
